The Red Sox didn’t get much in the way of runs on Tuesday, but one turned out to be enough, as Brandon Workman, Andrew Miller, Junichi Tazawa, and Koji Uehara combined to throw a two-hit shutout.

The Sox got an ace performance out of the 25-year-old Workman on Tuesday and they’re hoping for another strong outing from a young gun on Wednesday, as they send Rubby De La Rosa to the mound.

De La Rosa will be making his third start for the Red Sox this season. He pitched brilliantly in his first start against on May 31, throwing seven innings of shutout, four-hit ball while walking no one and striking out eight, but struggled his last time out against the Tigers, allowing four runs on nine hits with a pair of walks in 5 2/3 innings.

He’s faced the Orioles once in his career, giving up one run in relief over 2/3 of an inning on Sept. 29, 2013. Of the hitters in Wednesday’s starting nine, only Jonathan Schoop has faced De La Rosa before, getting a hit in his only at bat.

Lefthander Wei-Yin Chen will go for the Orioles; he’s made 12 starts for Baltimore this year and holds a 6-2 record with a 4.13 ERA. In his last start, he allowed two runs on five hits over 6 1/3 innings to the Oakland Athletics in a 4-3 loss.

In nine career starts against the Red Sox, Chen is 3-3 with a 5.25 ERA. In his last outing against them – on April 21 – he lasted five frames and allowed three runs on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Dustin Pedroia has had a ton of success against Chen, batting .500 in 24 career at bats, while David Ortiz has hit .400 in 15 ABs. Other Red Sox in Tuesday’s lineup who have decent sample sizes against Chen are Jonny Gomes (4-for-19), Mike Napoli (3-for-15), and A.J. Pierzynski (3-for-12).
