You probably knew this by the price of your seats to the games, but the Red Sox and Patriots are among the top 15 most valuable sports franchises according to Forbes in the magazine's annual list of the 50 most valuable sports franchises today.

The New England Patriots checked in at No. 8 on the list, with a projected value of $1.8 billion, making them the second most valuable football franchise after the Dallas Cowboys who came in at No. 5 ($2.5 billion value). Patriots ticket prices are the second most expensive in the league according to Forbes. Robert Kraft's football team came in at No. 6 last year ($1.635 billion value).

The Red Sox checked in at No. 11 this year with a projected value of $1.5 billion. Forbes noted a 14 percent increase in NESN ratings after the Red Sox captured their third World Series title in 10 years last season. John Henry's baseball team also came in at No. 11 last year ($1.312 billion value).

The Boston Celtics -- a new addition to the Top 50 list -- checked in at No. 45 on the list with a value of $875 million, giving the region three teams in the top 50.

The rising stock market, sky-high TV rights fees, and the limited number of franchises available have contributed to sports properties being valued at record levels according to the Forbes report.
