The second game of the Red Sox-Cardinals three-game set in St. Louis has been delayed by weather, the Cardinals announced shortly after 8 p.m.
Although it wasn’t raining at game time, there were dark clouds in the area around Busch Stadium, and Weather.com’s projections showed “a period of showers and thunderstorms between 8pm and 10pm,” in the St. Louis area, with “some storms [that] could produce heavy rainfall.”
The Globe’s Peter Abraham Tweeted out a photo of the ominous skies in St. Louis, the reason as to why the game was not started on time.

Around 8:27 p.m., the rain began to fall and the Busch Stadium grounds crew pulled the tarp over the infield.
Just after 8:50 p.m., the Cardinals announced that the game would begin at 9:15 p.m. Eastern Time, weather permitting.
