Red Sox Call Up Lefty Edwin Escobar

The Red Sox announced they have recalled left-handed pitcher Edwin Escobar from Triple-A Pawtucket, sending down right-hander Heath Hembree to make room for him.

Escobar will wear No. 72 and be available for today's game against the Los Angeles Angels.

The 22-year-old Escobar was acquired from the San Francisco Giants, along with Hembree, in a July 26 trade for Jake Peavy and cash. This will mark his first major league stint.

In two starts for the Pawtucket Sox, he pitched 12 innings and gave up two earned runs, three walks, and recorded 10 strikeouts.

Hembree threw four scoreless innings for the Sox in Saturday's 19-inning loss to the Angels.
