When the Red Sox acquired Yoenis Cespedes last week, manager John Farrell said he expected to play the strong-armed outfielder in right field most of the time. But that hasn't been the case so far. Cespedes is penciled in to play left field tonight for the third consecutive game since joining the Sox. He has yet to play in right field.

Daniel Nava, who had regularly been in left field prior to the trade deadline, gets the start in right field for the third game in a row as well.

Notes: These teams will be facing each other for the first time since the Red Sox beat the Cardinals in six games in the 2013 World Series. Seems like a long time ago, especially for the last place Red Sox... With no DH in the National League park, David Ortiz get the start at first base tonight in lieu of Mike Napoli. Ortiz has hit six home runs to go with 18 RBIs in his last 12 games... Cards starter Lance Lynn was the losing pitcher in Game 4 of the World Series when he gave up three runs in 5.2 innings as the Red Sox won, 4-2. Fast forward to this July when Lynn came through with a 1.71 ERA in five starts for the month... he'll be working on six days rest tonight and is 3-0 with a 2.37 ERA when he gets the extra day off between starts... Red Sox starter Rubby De La Rosa has been hot at home, cold on the road this season. In five starts at Fenway, De La Rosa is 3-1 with with a 1.97 ERA. In four starts on the road, he's 0-3 with a 6.04 ERA.... And as reported earlier today, Shane Victorino had back surgery in Los Angeles, and newly acquired Allen Craig won't be playing against his old team as he's headed to the 15-day DL after injuring his ankle on Saturday... Heath Hembree -- the reliever acquired by the Sox in the deal that saw Jake Peavy going to the Giants -- will join the major league club for tonight's game and outfielder Corey Brown will also join the Red Sox for the series in St. Louis, taking Craig's roster spot....Edwin Escobar made his second start for the PawSox since being acquired from the Giants in the Jake Peavy trade. He lasted six innings giving up just one run on eight hits. The southpaw starter struck out five and walked two in the outing.
