Matsuzaka has been somewhat disappointed by the level of scrutiny he is subjected to at times. ‘‘I think there have been a few cases where people have followed me as I was leaving the ballpark,’’ he said, ‘‘and I was a little surprised when that happened because I thought that privacy was held much more sacred here than in Japan.’’
