Jason Varitek, who dubbed Matsuzaka ‘‘Kumo’’ ("spider" in Japanese) because one of the T-shirts he wears while working out looks like something out of Spiderman, doesn’t golf. But at the ballpark, Varitek has spent more time with Matsuzaka than anyone else in uniform other than pitching coach John Farrell.
