The 24-year-old Jed Lowrie was called up on July 13 and has received the bulk of the playing time at short in Julio Lugo's absence. Richie Sexson was cut by the Mariners on July 11, and the Yankees picked up the struggling 33-year-old, who had a pair of 45-homer seasons in Milwaukee in 2001 and 2003.
