On July 31, 2007, the Red Sox traded lefthander Kason Gabbard, outfielder David Murphy, minor-leaguer Engel Beltre, and cash to the Texas Rangers for reliever Eric Gagne. Gagne didn't perform as expected for the Sox, giving up 14 earned runs in just over 18 innings of work during the second half of the 2007 season. Meanwhile, Murphy remains a starting outfielder for the Rangers and Gabbard was dealt back to Boston for cash considerations and has been assigned to Pawtucket. Gagne now pitches for the Quebec Capitales of the Can-Am league.
