
At age 44, Yastrzemski retired in 1983 with 452 homers, 1844 RBIs, 3419 hits and a .285 batting average. Currently, he is ranked 33d on the all-time home run list. Yastrzemski was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1989, garnering more than 94 percent of the vote. His No. 8 was retired by the Red Sox that same year.
