Boston's situation is blurry at best with Sean Casey, Mark Kotsay, Coco Crisp (center), and perhaps Alex Cora possibly thrust into starting roles. Without Tim Wakefield in the rotation, Kevin Cash will be relegated to late-game replacement should the Sox pinch hit for Jason Varitek. The Angels' bench is basically settled. Brandon Wood is the reserve infielder, Robb Quinlan is the backup first baseman, and Reggie Willits (speed and defense), Kendry Morales (power), and Juan Rivera (power) options in the outfield. Jeff Mathis will catch when Ervin Santana pitches, and he is an upgrade defensively over Mike Napoli. Boston's veteran bench is more likely to come through in a clutch situation.
