Jason Varitek had a difficult season in 2006, hitting .238 with 12 home runs and 55 RBIs. Along with lower production numbers, Varitek missed 33 games due to a cartilage tear in his left knee. Varitek's non-statistical contributions may have been taken for granted, however, as the pitching staff clearly suffered in his absence.
