Alex Gonzalez was brought in to shore up the defense at the shortstop position and quickly won over Red Sox fans with his dazzling glove work. Gonzalez has been arguably the greatest defensive shortstop in Red Sox history, and is the favorite for the Gold Glove. His batting average and production were low, but one could argue that his glove work more than made up for it.
