The Sox acquired Mike Lowell, who had struggled last season in Florida, as an add-on in the deal for Josh Beckett. The veteran third baseman brought Gold Glove caliber defense and a quiet leadership with him to Boston. Lowell rebounded nicely with the Sox, hitting .284 with 20 home runs and 80 RBIs.
