Dustin Pedroia has been anointed the next great Red Sox prospect, though his average was below .200 with almost zero production in limited duty. Veteran Mark Loretta was one of the bright spots on a disappointing 2006 team, but is now a free agent. The Sox will need to think long and hard about whether Pedroia is ready for a full-time role in 2007.
