Pedroia came to spring training with high expectations, as the previous Sox second-sacker (Mark Loretta) had been allowed to walk in the offseason. Moreover, Pedroia had only batted .191 during his 31-game tenure with the Red Sox in 2006. But he came ready to learn, putting in plenty of time to improve his game.
