The "Impossible Dream" came true due mostly to the season-long superhuman efforts of Yaz. The 27-year-old won the AL Triple Crown with a .326 batting average, 44 home runs (tied with the Twins' Harmon Killebrew), and 121 RBIs as the Red Sox improbably won the AL title (their first since 1946) a year after finishing in ninth place. Yaz was particularly brilliant down the stretch, batting .619 (13 for 21) over the final six games as the Sox took first place by a single game.
