Jim Rice
Jim Rice followed Hall of Famers Ted Williams and Carl Yastrzemski into the role of star left fielder for the Red Sox. In 1975, Rice's rookie season, he and teammate Fred Lynn formed one of the great rookie tandems of all time. In 16 seasons, all with the Red Sox, Rice was an 8-time all-star and was MVP of the American League in 1978. He compiled a .298 career batting average and hit 382 career homers. This is Rice's last year of eligibility for traditional Hall of Fame election. Last year, Rice was named on 392 ballots (72.2 percent), just 16 votes short of election.(File photo)
