Manny Ramirez,
$160 million
The Sox signed the hitting machine, in the prime of his career, to a seven-year deal in 2001 (the deal also included two team option years at $20 million a pop). Ramirez, then 29, had averaged more than 36 homers and 123 RBIs in six full seasons in Cleveland, and was coming off a year where he hit .351. He hit 274 homers and drove in 868 runs in a Red Sox uniform, and led the team to two world titles.
