Curt Schilling,
$40.5 million
Concurrent with the Thanksgiving 2003 trade that brought him from the Arizona Diamondbacks, Schilling signed a two-year, $25.5 million deal with the Red Sox. A $13 million option for 2007 and a $2.5 million bonus for winning the World Series brought the amount the Red Sox paid up to $40.5 million. The total doesn't count the $8 million he collected in a one-year deal with the Red Sox in 2008 (he spent the entire season on the disabled list).
