Foulke controls the action here. The Sox wont exercise their $7.5m option, which puts $1.5m in Foulkes pocket, as the buyout for the option. Foulke can then trigger a $3.75m player option, which is more than he probably could command on the open market. Then again, with a shortage of relievers and a surplus of teams willing to throw around money, Foulkes agent might be able to construct a deal that with incentives that could come close to matching what Foulke would make with the Sox.
