Offensively, he enjoyed a bounce-back season from 2005, when he hit just 8 home runs for the Marlins, but much of his production came in the season’s first half, when he hit .307 with 31 of his 47 doubles, 11 of his 20 home runs and had a slugging percentage of .516, 92 percentage points higher than it would be after the All-Star break. Lowell ranked ninth among big-league third basemen in slugging percentage (.475) and 14th in on-base average (.339, minimum 502 PA).
