Red Sox
Fast fact: 132 walks, only 84 K’s in 1,129 professional ABs. Lowdown: They’re both small, but Pedroia is not David Eckstein. The latter was a walk-on at the University of Florida, a 19th-round draft pick who signed for $1,000 and was allowed by the Sox to be claimed on waivers. Pedroia was the first player the Sox took in the 2004 draft (65th overall) who lived up to his billing in the minors and is now a litmus test of how well the Sox scouting and player development people have done their job.
