Saved from the junkyard: Red Sox reclamations
Bret Saberhagen
Bret Saberhagen won Cy Young awards in 1985 and 1989 with Kansas City, but injuries hindered his career after he was dealt to the Mets in 1991.
When the Sox signed him in 1997, he was coming off a major shoulder injury and looked like yesterday's news. However, Saberhagen won 15 games in 1998, and 12 more the next year as the Sox made the playoffs both seasons. Saberhagen missed the entire 2000 season with another shoulder injury and retired after a brief comeback in 2001.
