Jason Bay and J.D. Drew have been injured and/or ineffective
Left fielder Bay could miss the entire series with a hamstring problem, and right fielder Drew has been nagged by a groin injury. While Bay has been in an epic slump lately -- he's batting .252, more than 100 points lower than his batting average (.359) on April 28 -- he did homer in his last game, Aug. 5 at Tampa Bay. As for Drew, he remains an aggravating enigma -- he's hitting just .250, yet has an .826 OPS -- but he's capable of carrying the Sox for short bursts. They sure could use one of his hot streaks right now.
