At the start of the 2003 season, Sox newcomer David Ortiz backed up Jeremy Giambi as designated hitter and at first base. But over the next few years, Ortiz made a name for himself - Big Papi - and became one of the most feared hitters in the game. From 2003 to 2007, Ortiz hit 208 home runs, batted in 642 runs, and helped lead the Sox to two championships.
