The hits just keep on coming. The Red Sox have spent the season enduring one misfortune after another to key players. The latest blow: Dustin Pedroia's return to the disabled list just three days after he came back from a broken foot that sidelined him for several weeks.

Somehow, a motley roster of minor league callups and fairy tale contributors (not to mention the stellar pitching of Jon Lester and Clay Buchholz) have kept the Red Sox within sight of the Yankees and Rays in the AL East. But if the Sox do make the playoffs, they'll be missing several key components.
