How it happened: On June 25, Pedroia fouled a pitch off his left foot in the second inning against the Giants. The second baseman broke a bone in his foot and was out for several weeks.

Status: Pedroia returned to the lineup Tuesday night, but sat out Thursday and was placed on the disabled list Friday. Manager Terry Francona said that a scan showed the bone hadn't fully healed, and that Pedroia reported soreness Thursday.
