Red Sox injury report
Mike Cameron
How it happened: Cameron has been suffering from a lower abdominal strain since mid-April. Appendicitis was initially feared, but that was ruled out, although he went on the disabled list April 20. He returned but the worsening injury forced him back to the DL this past weekend.
Status: Examinations showed that the lower abdominal muscle tear has become larger. The injury is now affecting Camerons hip flexor and groin muscles. After a meeting Wednesday with team officials, Cameron has decided to get surgery on his lower abdominal tear. He will miss the rest of the season but should be ready for spring training.
