The All-Star break couldn't have arrived soon enough for the Red Sox, who deserve kudos for managing to go 51-37 in the first half despite the relentless gnawing of the injury bug. Josh Beckett, Dustin Pedroia, Jacoby Ellsbury, Victor Martinez, Mike Cameron, Jason Varitek . . . all key players, all of whom missed significant time in the first half due to injury.
With general manager Theo Epstein undoubtedly spending the three-day break analyzing his ball club, we figured there's no better time to do the same. Here, then, is our most recent update of our 1-25 rankings of the players on the Red Sox roster, which was first compiled in February and updated for Opening Day. Dropping out in our version 3.0 update are Scott Schoeneweis (No. 25, released), and Mike Lowell (No. 22, purgatory).
