Byung-Hyun Kim acquired
Theo made his first in-season trade as GM for the Red Sox on May 29, 2003, dealing third baseman Shea Hillenbrand to the Arizona Diamondbacks for Byung-Hyun Kim. Kim served as both a starter and a closer for the Sox, going 8-5 with a 3.18 ERA the rest of the season for Boston, starting five games and saving 16. Kim pitched poorly in the ALDS and was left off the ALCS roster. After the 2003 season, Epstein signed Kim for two more years at $10 million. The sidearmer was later traded to the Rockies in 2005.
