Baseball's biggest collapses

69 Cubs (but blame the black cat)
In the first year of a new league structure that included an East and West division, some superstitious fans will blame a black cat for the collapse of manager Leo Durocher's Cubs. On the Cubs 155th day atop the NL East, a black cat walked behind the Cubs on-deck circle at Shea Stadium. The Mets won the game, 7-1, and then moved into first place with a win the next day and a Cubs loss to the Phillies. The Mets won the division by eight games and earned the name Miracle Mets after they won their first World Series in franchise history.
