As manager of a major market team, Valentine's name and legend grew, thanks in part to his passionate on field antics and colorful after game commentary.
Perhaps his most famous move occurred in 1999. After being ejected in a game against the Blue Jays for arguing a catcher's interference call, he returned to the dugout in disguise in the 12th inning. Major League Baseball suspended him for three games and fined him $5,000 for the stunt.
