Meet the 2011 Red Sox draft picks
Matt BarnesPicked: First round, No. 19
He's from: University of Connecticut
Position: Righthanded pitcher
About him: Has a fastball that sits at 94-95 miles per hour and developed a curveball and changeup with the Huskies. The 6-4, 203-pound hurler will turn 21 on June 17. He has a 1.62 ERA and 111 strikeouts in 116 2/3 innings with the Huskies this year.
Red Sox scouting director Amiel Sawdaye says: "We obviously scouted him through the summer and this year and see him as a guy with three pitches, middle-of-the-rotation guy, three-plus pitches. I think given the fact that he was at 19, we were really excited."
