Meet the 2011 Red Sox
Projected lineupC Jarrod Saltalamacchia
Fast fact: Saltalamacchia was the Opening Day catcher for the Rangers in 2009 and 2010 but did not hold the job either time because of injuries. He has been on the disabled list three times in the last two seasons and twice had surgery.
Lowdown: The 25-year-old Saltalamacchia was handed the starting job based far more on promise than performance. A career .248 hitter with a .315 on-base percentage, the Red Sox believe he is ready to blossom after overcoming injuries and a rocky tenure in Texas. Physically, he has all the tools required.
