2005: The race to the playoffs was decided during the final weekend of the season. With the Yankees in town, Boston sought a sweep to be crowned AL East champion. Two Red Sox wins would result in a tie. Meanwhile, the Cleveland Indians were knocking on the door as a wild-card contender, but the Tribe was swept away by the Chicago White Sox to finish two games out. The Red Sox took two of three vs. the Bombers and both teams finished with 95-67 records. The Yankees took the division as a result of taking the season series with the Sox, 10-9. Boston was then swept by the eventual 2005 World Series champion ChiSox in the ALDS.
