Papelbon's excellent season ended with an ugly final scene, with the closer blowing the save against the Orioles on the final night as the Sox missed the postseason. He often stated his desire to get to free agency, and he's played the arbitration game well, earning $27.6 million over the past three seasons. But there are other big-name closers who are free agents this offseason -- Jose Valverde, Heath Bell, Jonathan Broxton -- and let's face it, the Red Sox need him. He'll get his big payday in the same place he's earned all 219 of his career saves.
