Mark Melancon, RHP Cherington traded shortstop Jed Lowrie and righthanded pitcher Kyle Weiland to the Astros for Melancon, who saved 20 games last season with a 2.78 ERA. Drafted by the Yankees in 2006, the 26-year-old is in the discussion to close for the Red Sox in 2012, but nothing's been finalized. 'I think ultimately it will fall on Bobby and also our pitching coach, Bob McClure,' Cherington said. 'We believe both are fully capable of doing it. Bailey’s been doing it for a little bit longer, so perhaps he goes in with the leg up.'
