Franklin Morales Previous ranking: 18 Once one of the game's best pitching prospects -- he was ranked the eighth-best prospect in the game by Baseball America before the 2008 season -- the 26-year-old lefty began the season in the bullpen. But Valentine, who has said he thinks Morales has the repertoire to succeed as a starter, moved him into the rotation when Josh Beckett was hurt, and the results have been exceptional in a small sample: In two starts, he's whiffed 17 in 11 innings with a 3.27 ERA.
