Carl Everett
The Red Sox acquired the controversial Everett from the Houston Astros on Dec. 14, 1999. Everett had an All-Star year in 2000, posting 34 home runs, 108 RBIs, but his short time in Boston also included some incidents that would make Manny Ramirez blush. Everett clashed several times with manager Jimy Williams, who fined Everett for missing team bus trip. The mercurial outfielder also blew up at Joe Kerrigan, who replaced Williams as the Sox manager. Everett was also fined by Major League Baseball for making an obscene gesture while crossing home plate after hitting a home run off the Mariners' Jamie Moyer in 2001. And Everett was punished for a famous Fenway run-in with umpire Ron Kulpa in 2000. Another signature moment for Everett came in Sept. 2001, when he broke up Yankees righthander Mike Mussina's bid for a perfect game by lining a single to center field with two outs in the ninth inning at Fenway. Everett was shipped to the Texas Rangers after only two years in a Red Sox uniform.
