After Walpole's Joe Morgan took over the team in 1988 after John McNamara was fired in July, "Morgan Magic" began with 24 straight wins at Fenway. The '88 Sox won the AL East, but were swept by the A's in the ALCS. Morgan holds the record for managing a team to eight straight postseason losses. Morgan compiled a 301-262 (.535) record over 3 1/2 years as Sox manager.
