MOST BELOVED SHORTSTOP
Rick Burleson
In the days leading up to Valentine's Day, we ask you to pick the most beloved Sox player at each position (1967-present).
A four-time All-Star, Rooster was a hard-nosed player who turned more double plays than any SS in Sox history and still holds the major league season record (147 DPs in 1980). Sox fan Brett Trainor put it best when he wrote, "The heart and soul of the great '70s Red Sox teams." (Burleson's stats and facts) (Globe File Photo / George Rizer)
