John Valentin John Valentin played in 580 games as Sox shortstop in the early '90s before moving over to second and third base. In 1995, Val had a career-high 102 RBIs to go along with 27 homers, 37 doubles, 81 walks, and 20 stolen bases. In this Oct. 1999 photo, Valentin howled in delight as he crossed the plate following his solo home run that put the Red Sox ahead 3-2 in Game 3 of a divisional playoff series.
