MOST BELOVED STARTER
Jim Lonborg
The 1967 AL Cy Young Award winner, Gentleman Jim went 22-9 with 246 strikeouts that season. In this Oct. 2, 1967 photo, Lonborg is lifted by his teammates following a victory over the Twins that gave the Red Sox their first pennant in 31 years. Four days later in the World Series, he beat the heavily favored Cardinals with a one-hitter. Lonborg then tossed a three-hitter in Game 5. But on only two days' rest, Lonborg lost a 7-2 decision in Game 7.
