Clemens was drafted by the Red Sox in the first round (19th pick) of the 1983 amateur draft. As a rookie in 1984, Clemens recorded his first major league victory against Minnesota in his second start. Clemens struck out seven Twins batters as the Red Sox won, 5-4.
