MAY 24, 1952 AT FENWAY PARK Sox outfielder Jimmy Piersall and Yankees second baseman Billy Martin exchange insults before the game, then get into a fight in the tunnel beneath the stands that is broken up by Boston pitcher Ellis Kinder and New York coach Bill Dickey. The two had exchanged barbs at a recent series in New York, and this time it got out of hand. Once under the stands, Piersall asks Kinder to hold his hat, then absorbs two quick punches from Martin before the fight turns into a clinch. Piersall returns to change his bloody shirt in the clubhouse, then rides Martin with insults from the bench for the entire game (left).
