Indiana Pacers forward David West is expected to play Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals at Miami on Wednesday, despite an injured right leg. Team doctors held West out of Monday's practice with what coach Frank Vogel described as a calf strain or lower leg strain. He did shoot around with his teammates after practice ended. Vogel said doctors thought it would be best to give West a day off. Pacers center Roy Hibbert had his right thumb taped after getting hit in practice. He finished the workout and it is not expected to keep him out of the game on Wednesday. Backup forward Jeff Pendergraph did not attend Monday's workout to attend the birth of his daughter. Indiana is making its first conference finals appearance since 2004.( 05/21/2013 12:00 AM )

SAN ANTONIO -- Tony Parker had 20 points and nine assists, Kawhi Leonard scored 18 points and the Spurs struck first in the Western Conference finals by beating the Memphis Grizzlies, 105-83, on Sunday. The Spurs avoided a repeat of their Game 1 loss from when the teams met two years ago in the first round. The Grizzlies went on to knock San Antonio out of the playoffs as the top seed that time. San Antonio raced out to a 17-point lead in the first quarter, then came up with a response when Memphis rallied to get within six in the second half. Both teams pulled their starters with over 5 minutes left and the Spurs leading by 21.( 05/20/2013 12:00 AM )

NEW YORK -- A team built to win a title now didn't get close. Sure, the New York Knicks ended lengthy droughts for division titles and playoff series victories, so there were successes. But they surrounded Carmelo Anthony with players on their last NBA legs with a championship in mind, knowing the window to win one would slam shut quickly. Now their season over. It was good, but not nearly good enough. The Knicks were eliminated Saturday by the Indiana Pacers in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference semifinals. It was the Knicks' first appearance in the second round since 2000, but they expected to go further. ''We all knew what was the goal that we had set,'' Anthony said. ''Everybody wants to win a championship.''( 05/20/2013 12:00 AM )
