Dallas tames Raptors

Nelson becomes No. 2 on win list

Antoine Walker scored 27 points and Steve Nash had 23 points and 11 assists to help Dallas coach Don Nelson move into sole possession of second place on the all-time victory list with the Mavericks' 111-94 win over the visiting Toronto Raptors last night.

Nelson, who reached another milestone with his 3,000th NBA game as a coach and player, has 1,111 coaching victories -- one more than Pat Riley.

Former Raptors coach Lenny Wilkens leads with 1,268 victories.

Antawn Jamison had 23 points, Dirk Nowitzki added 14, and rookie Josh Howard had 14 points and 14 rebounds as the Mavericks improved to 12-1 at home.

Rookie Chris Bosh, making his NBA debut in his hometown, had 14 points and eight rebounds for the Raptors, who lost their third straight.

Vince Carter, bothered recently by a sore Achilles' tendon, had 21 points for Toronto.

Toronto, which led by as many as 13 in the third quarter, got as close as 82-81 early in the fourth quarter on Lonny Baxter's 3-point play.

But Dallas used a 12-2 run capped by Walker's 3-pointer with 5:32 remaining to push the lead to 94-83.

The Mavericks went up, 101-86, on Nash's layup with 3:35 left and cruised to their fifth victory in seven games.

Toronto got seven consecutive points from Carter during a third-quarter run to build a 63-50 advantage. But Dallas answered with a 15-2 spurt capped by Howard's layup to tie it at 65.

Nowitzki's 11-foot turnaround with 2.8 seconds left in the third quarter put the Mavericks in front, 77-76.

Pacers 95, Cavaliers 85 -- Jermaine O'Neal had 24 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists to help host Indiana send LeBron James and shorthanded Cleveland to its 34th consecutive road loss. The Cavaliers dressed only nine players after completing a six-player trade that sent Ricky Davis to the Celtics earlier in the day.

James had 27 points, 6 assists, 3 steals, and 3 blocks, but Cleveland's road woes continued. The Cavs' losing streak is tied with New Jersey's streak in the 1989-90 and 1990-91 campaigns for the second-longest in NBA history. Sacramento's 43-game streak in the 1990-91 and 1991-92 seasons is the longest.

Five Pacers scored in double figures, including 16 points and seven assists from Ron Artest.

Spurs 78, Grizzlies 67 -- Tim Duncan had 21 points and 13 rebounds for his league-leading 20th double double and host San Antonio held Memphis scoreless over the final 6:02. Tony Parker added 18 points for the Spurs, who won their seventh straight. Rasho Nesterovic added 10 and tied a career-high with 15 rebounds.
