Rockets rally by revamped Cavs

Cuttino Mobley and Steve Francis scored 18 points apiece and each made big 3-pointers down the stretch as the Houston Rockets rallied for an 89-85 win over the Cavaliers last night in Cleveland.

Francis made four free throws in the final 16 seconds for the Rockets, who used a late 12-0 spurt to make up a 7-point deficit in the fourth quarter.

The Cavaliers were playing for the first time since their six-player trade with Boston, and they got a huge lift from new arrivals Tony Battie, Eric Williams and Kedrick Brown, who combined for 36 points, 15 rebounds, and 8 assists.

LeBron James's jumper just before the shot clock expired gave Cleveland a 78-71 lead with 5:21 left, and the Cavs appeared to be in control.

But Francis hit a long 3, Taylor dropped in a jumper, and Mobley drained another 3 from the right corner as the Rockets took a 79-78 lead with four minutes to go.

Warriors 98, Hawks 85 -- Mike Dunleavy made five of Golden State's season-high 10 3-pointers, scored 25 points, and grabbed 14 rebounds in the Warriors' victory in Atlanta.

Jason Richardson added 22 points for the Warriors, who were 10 for 21 on 3-pointers and outscored the Hawks, 30-0, from 3-point range. Atlanta was 0 for 5 from behind the arc.

Magic 94, Pacers 90 -- Rod Strickland's jump shot with 14.4 seconds left lifted Orlando over Indiana in Indianapolis.

Al Harrington missed an open jumper from the left wing with seven seconds remaining that would have given Indiana the lead.

76ers 87, Heat 76 -- Aaron McKie scored 20 points and Glenn Robinson had 19 in host Philadelphia's victory over Miami.

The Sixers, playing without Allen Iverson, snapped a two-game losing streak. Iverson has missed three of the last four games with a swollen right knee.

Nets 87, Jazz 74 -- New Jersey, the two-time defending Eastern Conference champion, improved to .500 for the first time since Nov. 11 with a victory over visiting Utah.

Kenyon Martin had 22 points and 11 rebounds and Jason Kidd had 19 points, 8 assists, and 8 rebounds. The Nets (12-12) held Utah to just 9 points in the first quarter, and forced 21 turnovers.

Pistons 77, Bulls 73 -- Richard Hamilton scored 8 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter to help host Detroit end a four-game losing streak with a victory over shorthanded Chicago.

The Bulls had just nine available players. Eddy Curry and Corie Blount weren't in uniform because of knee injuries, and Eddie Robinson sat out with an ankle problem.

Spurs 73, Raptors 70 -- Tony Parker made a free throw with 7.9 seconds left to preserve host San Antonio's victory over Toronto that stretched the Spurs' winning streak to eight.

Parker had 13 points, and Tim Duncan had 30 points and 13 rebounds in helping the Spurs improve to 10-1 against Eastern Conference teams.

Clippers 93, Bucks 83 -- Bobby Simmons scored 16 of his career-high 20 points in the first half to help Los Angeles sweep its four-game homestand with a victory over Milwaukee.

Elton Brand had 15 points and 16 rebounds after getting in early foul trouble, Corey Maggette scored 17 points, and Chris Wilcox added 16 for Los Angeles.

Nuggets 99, SuperSonics 98 -- Carmelo Anthony scored 14 points, including a layup with six seconds to play that lifted Denver over host Seattle.

The Sonics had a chance to win, but Marcus Camby blocked a shot at the top of the key by Seattle's Antonio Daniels.
