Shaquille O'Neal scored a season-high 40 points, and the host Miami Heat overcame the loss of leading scorer Dwyane Wade to beat the Washington Wizards, 106-83, last night for their fifth straight win.
Wade sprained his left ankle grabbing a loose ball with 3:18 left in the first half, and did not return. A Heat spokesman said Wade's absence was precautionary.
O'Neal added 12 rebounds and five blocks as Miami beat Washington for the seventh consecutive time.
Suns 121, Magic 100 -- Leandro Barbosa scored 19 points in relief of foul-plagued Steve Nash and Phoenix set a team record for best start to a season (18-3) with a victory over visiting Orlando. Quentin Richardson scored 26 points and shot 6 of 12 on 3-pointers for Phoenix.
Cavaliers 92, Grizzlies 86 -- LeBron James punctuated a 31-point performance with a slam in the closing seconds and finished with 8 assists and 7 steals, leading Cleveland over host Memphis. Jeff McInnis added 18 points for the Cavaliers.
Mavericks 94, Bulls 93 -- Michael Finley hit the winning shot with 3.2 seconds left and scored 27 points to lead visiting Dallas over Chicago. Dirk Nowitzki had 21 points for Dallas.![]()
